SSA Marine Mexico Participates in the XXVIII AMANAC Annual Congress

During the XXVIII Annual Congress of Shipping Agents, held from October 2–5 in Puerto Vallarta, Manuel Fernández Pérez, CEO of SSA Marine México, participated in the panel discussion, “Port Terminals: A Crucial Link.” During his presentation, Fernández highlighted that Mexico’s projected record-breaking $40 billion in Foreign Direct Investment for 2024 mainly comes from reinvestment by established companies rather than new enterprises driven by nearshoring. He also pointed out that between 2022 and 2024, 1,325 companies announced plans to establish operations in Mexico, stressing the importance of turning these commitments into reality to fully capitalize on Mexico’s strategic advantages, particularly because of its trade relationship with the United States. Fernández also shared key insights on foreign trade trends, including a 25% increase in containerized exports to the U.S. and a comparable rise in containerized imports from China during the first half of 2024. He underscored the dynamism of the Mexican market, where 35% of consumer goods are imported, domestic consumption grew by 16% year-over-year in the first half of 2024, and e-commerce sales achieved a global-leading growth rate of 24.6%. To ensure the port sector’s continued development, he emphasized the need for the government to maintain macroeconomic stability, foster an investment-friendly environment, and uphold clear regulations, considering the critical importance of the USMCA framework in supporting these efforts.
